Musical Monday #3 - Incestuous Canada

7-4 Shortline feat. Feist on vocals
The definitive Canadian indie rock supergroup, Broken Social Scene (BSS) was formed in 1999 by Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning in Toronto. Along with a small army of musically inclined friends from various groups and projects, the two have created a truly dynamic sound experience. The BSS website lists 16 members (Justin Peroff, Brendan Canning, Kevin Drew, Charles Spearin, Andrew Whiteman, Feist, Jason Collett, Evan Cranley, Emily Haines, James Shaw, Amy Millan, Dave Neufeld, John Crossingham, Ohad Benchetrit, Julie Penner, Lisa Lobsinger) , but there have been countless others to work with the collective over the years. Canadian music is often intermingled like that - to the point where it is sometimes hard to keep track of who has worked with whom etc...so for the most part I don't. If I like it good, if someone from a particular group has been in some other band great I'll check it out if I hear about it...but if you really want details...
I can tell you this much, BSS put on a stellar live show! They played the Thursday night mainstage at this year's folk fest and I was blown away! If you ever get the chance to see them go! I know I will go again, the line up is always changing and each show is new because of it!
