Pandora: Your own personal DJ

The Music Genome Project, started in January 2000, is a revolutionary way of cross referencing music by characteristic rather than genre, target market or musician appearance. What a great idea! There are up to 400 of these characteristics (or genes) for each song, and the Music Genome team has analysed music from over 10 000 artists.

What's even better is that this has now been made available to the public via internet radio! The data compiled by the participants of the Music Genome Project was launched as Pandora in July last year.

Do you have a song that you just love, and want to find more music like it, or do you have a favorite group or musician that you've played to the point that you wish there was something new to listen to? You simply enter the name of a song or artist, and it will compil a play list targeted specificaly to the meet the characteristics (or genes) of the song/artist that you entered...It's a great way to expand a tired repetoir, you should really check it out. The founders also keep a blog of events that help to contribute to this amazing little service!

I'm in love!
Now if only the soundcard on my office computer worked, I would never have to worry about bring music to work again...
