Rice-a-Roni...then what?

So the trip to California is begining to take shape... We have our plane tickets, rental car, and hotels booked. We have decided to save money where ever we can to allow us to do more things in the long run. It is this thinking that has resulted in our booking a hotel outside of Monterey (in Salinas) for the run, and a I(1 star) hotel in downtown San Francisco.

So, I guess that brings up the question of what to do while in San Francisco? There are the obvious tourist things like The Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, Fisherman's Warf, and the Cable Cars, but what else does San Francisco have to offer? With justa few minutes spent looking online, I found out that there is a Diago Rivera mural at the City College of San Francisco, a Cartoon Art Museum (unfortunately, we will be in SF 1 day late to see the Gross, Gruesome and Gothic exhibit), Lombard Street (North America's most crooked street!), and that there is not only a China Town as like many cities in North America, there is also a district known as Japantown.

But what else is there? What does San Francisco hold in store for a couple of kids who can only take so much of the traditional tourist trap fare? Vineyards perhaps? What sort of local flare can we savour while there? Does anyone know of something or somewhere in SF that we simply cannot miss while we are there? Let me know!

On a much less exciting note: I found out tonight that my boss is going to be on the same flight to San Francisco that we are. His son is a Stanford student and he's going to be spending the week visiting him...if I run into them anywhere I will be extremely UNHAPPY!!!

There is a Wax Museum and if you do go to Alcatraz, take the audio tour. I've
been to both and they were awesome.
