Change is good for the soul

Interesting yet bizarre…I have stumbled upon a unique topic for blogs…A log of spare change found. The first blog I found as a link on a friend of a friends site (Change Is Good) and is by far the most impressive of the three that I have found. The other two – Thoughts from the Change Race & Race of The Century – are competing against each other…

Just a little something that I found amusing...

Keep your head down and always look for silver!” Bailey

This just in...

2006 is beginning to look like a great year for concerts!

I decided it was time to start looking into who the performers for this years folk festival are going to be…and what did I learn? Ms. Righteous Babe herself Ani Difranco will be returning to grace the stage again this summer. Great News!!! This will be the fourth time I have seen her live, and each time is a thrill. When she played the festival in 2003, she took the huge stage with just a microphone and her guitar, and completely wowed the audience. Watching someone so small create such a phenomenally gargantuan sound is completely awe inspiring.

The official list of performers hasn’t been posted yet (the site is saying early May), but other performers that have been confirmed include: Feist, Dan Bern, The Mammals, and Grupo Fantasma.

I am definitely looking forward to dusting off my festival chair and tarp on July 27th for a weekend of great music, food and hopefully sunshine! You should come join in the fun!

The Death Cab cover is so incredible (is that redundant? I don't
know)
There's a Metric concert here in Montreal, but I'm not able to go, and
I already missed the Belle and Sebastien gig, but apart from what I'm missing,
it's definitely a good year for concerts

About another girl...

This is Kristin...sort of...I was playing with the exposure times on my camera tonight, and Kristin, being an animated sort of girl, moved too quickly for the shutter...I quite like the effect. It may not be the most flattering picture in terms of a candid snapshot, but I think it really is quite interesting...Kristin is off to Fiji in a week...we will miss her much!

About a girl...

So, my avid reader(s) - is it even possible that there are more than one of you that come here on a semi regular basis??? - will have read recently about my co-worker Faye and her compulsion to doodle. We were out tonight sending another co-worker (the much talked about Kristin) off on a four month journey...and what does Faye do? That's right...you guessed...she doodled (and in no way is that a bad thing!)

This is Faye...

Truths realized...

Someone said to me today, that I seem to have fallen in love with the same man all over again...I didn't realize it until it was pointed out to me, but it is true, I have.

Stuff Portrait Friday #1 - Oooo, a new game to play!

I do like games...and this seems like it could be a fun one to play. STUFF PORTRAIT FRIDAYS as brought to us by Ramdom and Odd.

The theme for today..."bedside manner"

Item #1: The inside of my nightstand drawer... red leather journal, Foot cream, comdoms, handcuffs, white linen towel with toys.
Item #2: a good book I've read...The Cheese Monkeys - Chip Kidd

Item #3: my favorite lamp...built by yours truely for lighting class in design school...it doesn't work anymore, but I can't bring myself to throw it away, and there is nowhere in my house for it to live so I haven't bothered fixing it.

I QUIT! - HNT #8

Yes, you heard me correctly, I QUIT!

Biting my nails that is...
I know it is a vile habit, and it is something that I have done on and off for my entire life...but I have managed to not bite them for 2 whole weeks now, and my nails are growing quite nicely!

Now my hands look a little more feminine, which is hard because they are so darn big, but the longer nails give them a but of a refined girly charm...yes, I am girly...I'm coming to terms with it!

And in other news...I have my very own guest this week!...Mr. J.
When he heard that I had become part of the nalf-nekkid masses, he was eager to join in, and so, without further ado...

presenting Mr. J!!!

Night terror

Mr. J and I (along with half of the neighbourhood) were awoken by the screams of a man calling for help shortly after 2:00 this morning. It was sort of scary. Joel went out to the balcony to see if he could tell where the person in need of assistance was calling from, but by that time the screams had stoped. I hope he's ok.

Obsess much?

Anyone who knows me will attest to the fact that when I have a thought or interest piqued, I tend to run with it for a while until I completely wear it out…some might call this obsession…I try not to think of it like that (yes denial is a great place to live – thank you very much!).

The recent bout of Batgirl mania seems to have subsided to make way for not one, but two new obsessions interests.

The first was ignited by a co-workers meeting doodles. Faye has a tendency to doodle mindlessly when she is talking on the phone, eating lunch, in a meeting – in fact I’m sure you’d be hard pressed to find her without a pen and paper near by – this is one of the many reasons that I totally love the girl…anyway, we were in a meeting on Monday, and I happened to look over at what her latest creation was, when I was transported to another time and place. Now obviously, I don’t mean this in the literal sense; I mean that I was reminded – no, not reminded, beat over the noggin with a memory – of a website I used to visit with religious conviction. http://www.explodingdog.com/ No, this is not something gross, despite the rather disgusting misnomer. Instead, it is a rather addictive art site full of the charming, off-beat (sometimes disturbing) “doodles” of the amazing, wonderful, stupendous SAM BROWN!!! He will take a suggested title and draw a picture from it…for example...

Science did not fail me

Are you ready?

EVERYBODY GO THERE NOW!!! http://www.explodingdog.com/

Oh, and on a side note…my rekindled love for Sam Brown’s site has been passed on to not only Faye, but to 3 others in my office as well. It’s that good…if you haven’t clicked on the link yet…just click it already!!!

And the second thing that seems to be occupying a fair amount of my free brain cells these days is another old favorite revisited. Actually, my love of stairs may fall into a slightly different category, because it seems to be more of a low lying, ongoing thing that I think about. Something that pops up from time to time to take hold of a few days of thought (for example); something that I was recently reminded of twice in the last few days. The first came at the possibility of an amazing oportunity for Joel and I to become home owners (I'll talk more about that if things work out - I don't want to jinx it), and the second came when I was visiting Sean Logan's space Rebel Photography. He has a great eye for capturing the everyday in beautiful photos, and one of his recent posts has a great shot of fire escape stairs in Toronto's downtown. He also has some amazing pictures of hamanity at it's best and worst - he gives a quiet dignity to a person down on their luck. Go and take a look!

These are not Sean Logan's photos, but simply a couple of pictures that I really like...

Anyway...that's just one more piece of the puzzle that makes up who I am (still working on figuring out who that really is …but each day I figure out another little piece).

Voyeurism - HNT #7

Well, it's that time of the week again, the part where I exposed a little bit of skin and with it a little bit of my soul...
This weeks picture is from the reserves. I'm not Feeling especially creative, and it is far too cold to be taking my clothes off for any extended period of time...brrrrrr.
I really like the voyeuristic quality of this shot... it feels a little bit like looking in on someone (that someone just happens to be myself).
Anyway, Happy Half-Nekkid Thursday to all!
And to all a goodnight (I'm off to bed!)

Today's holiday brought you by the "good" people at Hallmark

Ahhhh...St Valentine's day...the day of love...

The day of love? Give me a break! I've always found Valentine's day to be a bit cheesy. People spend so much money buying sugary candies, and second rate flowers with inflated price tags, or frantically try to find a restaurant that will take a reservation at the last minute so they can show off to fellow diners how "in love" they are with their sweetie...yuck.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I enjoy romance as much as the next estrogen powered girl, I don't, however, find it at all flattering or romantic to have displayes of love demanded upon me just because the greeting card and candy industries don't have any other big cash grabs during the month of February.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Sure, I enjoy a heart shaped box of chocolate truffles (thanks FR), or a cupcake with heart shaped sprinkles (yum! Thanks boys!), and maybe that makes me a hypocrite, or possibly just bitter that my "Valentine" isn't here with me, but enough is enough already.

True romance has thought behind it. It isn't something that is done because everyone else is doing it. Case and point, I have had a rough couple of weeks, and Joel - who works out of town - knew that I was feeling down and sent me flowers at the office last week. Just because. He knew that they would bring a smile to my face on an otherwise bleak day. That's romantic, and one of the many reasons that I love him...

Ok, enough mushy stuff! If you were wondering who the real St Valentine was...check out the Learning Channel's story on it here.

Anyway, Happy Valentines Day! I love you all!

Live Journal fan art 'meme'straviganza!

Meme: (noun) an internet information generator, especially of random or contentless information...

I am pretty sure that everyone has heard about the draw Batgirl meme that was going around live journal in the middle of January...I contributed, along with over 1000 other little sheep. But things seems to have progressed from there, with fan art memes popping up all over the place... Here's a list of what I've found (for the most part they are a few weeks old, but since I am not a livejournal user, I didn't see them until I went looking)

The original draw Batgirl meme as tracked (started?) by [info]himynameisjamie on LJ.

These were my contributions to the Batgirl insanity (the masterlist).

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

From that I went on to do my own Joker chick...not a Meme as far as I know...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

And last week I saw the Aquaman meme as tracked (started?) by [info]jodycody on LJ

(I didn't draw anything for this one, but you can find the master list here),

and the Green Lantern meme as tracked by [info]alazybear .

I drew a lame Green Lantern this afternoon...I know possitively NOTHING about the Green Lantern, but the urge to doodle, combined with the lack of inspiration that comes with a Sunday afternoon left me with this:

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

and an extra lame attempt at rendering it...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Oh, but before I was hit with the need to put pen to paper, I found a few more memes...

There's the strange FatBatCat meme ([info]awesomeyoder),

the Iron Spiderman meme ([info]dryponder),

the WarWolf fan art meme ([info]himynameisjamie),

and the Superboy meme ([info]dryponder), to which I have this to contribute:

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

and this:

yes, that is supposed to be a street light...maybe he's practicing leaping tall buildings in a single bound...?

So, yeah, I'm a nerd...but I'm pretty sure you all knew that by now anyway.

Joke of a doodle

Ummm...I walked past a page of doodles I had done yesterday while talking on the phone and was struck suddenly by a line on the page that looked like it could be The Jokers mouth (yes, I still have Batgirl on the brain!)...so I took it and went with it, and one thing lead to another...and well...
Voilà!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

This is of course, if The Joker were a chick...

She looks a little like Gina Gershon - if Gina Gershon had green hair and a demented grin - which was completely by accident...

Messy art hand - HNT #5

Ummm...I walked past a page of doodles I had done yesterday while talking on the phone and was struck suddenly by a line on the page that looked like it could be The Jokers mouth (yes, I still have Batgirl on the brain because of this)...so I took it and went with it, and one thing lead to another...and well...
This is what I (or at least my hand and forearm) tend to look like after any project involving markers...markers are fun!!!
Happy Half-Nekkid Thursday everyone!
